Mr Lars T. Brandeggen and Mr Børre Syversen founded Smart Communication in 2004.
Smart Communication was founded in 2004 by Scandinavian telecommunications investors Lars T. Brandeggen and Børre Syversen. The founders have an in-depth knowledge of telecommunications service provision and marketing.
Brandeggen and Syversen held the positions of Chairman of the Board and Marketing Director respectively during the establishment of the directory assistance service 1880 in the Norwegian market. In the course of just a few months, 1880 achieved a market share of more than 20%. During this period they acquired first-hand experience of people’s difficulties in remembering even the most high-profile telephone numbers.
The founders also have experience as managers and owners of a major Scandinavian call centre company. They were also the first outside investors in the mobile telecommunications company Mobyson, which was eventually acquired by Telenor, the major international mobile telecommunications company.
The idea of introducing the American concept of "vanity numbers" to various European countries, among others, evolved as a result of visits to the USA and Australia, together with experience gained while running 1880.
The founders noted that the largest and most prestigious American companies made extensive use of the concept, and that the regulatory framework outside North America, which had previously obstructed its more extensive exploitation, was now gradually becoming more flexible.
As the regulatory framework is in place in most of Europe, conditions are ripe for achieving success similar to that in the USA and Australia.
Lars T. Brandeggen holds the position of Chairman of the Board, while Børre Syversen is Managing Director.
